Principal's Address
Spirits of water, spirits of air,
Weave in the world full of nurture and care.
Sons of bright fire and gnomes of quick gait -
All of them speak to me whilst they create:
"Oh, we work within the world for purest joyfulness alone,
But remember please the deeds we do - they must not pass unknown,
For you free us from enchantment when you make our life your own."
It has been another busy term with camps and class performances, the most recent being the wonderful rendition of ‘The Theft of Thor’s Hammer by Class 4. Class 7s have also returned from an action-packed week in Walpole, spent canoeing, surfing and bushwalking. The Class 5s have been busy training for their Greek Olympic camp later this week.
Looking ahead, our Spring festival is fast approaching, to be held on the morning of Thursday 19th September. Spring festival is a light-hearted event, carrying with it the energies of rebirth, transformation, healing, and renewal.
We will kick off the day with garland making on class verandas; please remember to bring in flowers / willow canes etc for the children to weave into garlands to wear throughout the day. We will then gather as a school for performances and the maypole dance, followed by the hugely popular ‘wildflower’ team games. The children have been grouped into wildflower teams and wear their team colour on the day; please refer to the wildflower team list in this newsletter to check your child’s colour. Our high schoolers will participate in a separate ‘Amazing Race’ event during this time. After the games, parents are invited to stay on at school for a picnic lunch. If you choose to take your child home early, please ensure that you let your child’s teacher know first.
Please also be aware that Thursday 19th September is our final day of term. Many of the GHSS teaching staff will be leaving for Perth early on the afternoon of 19/09 to participate in the WA Steiner Schools Day. This is held at West coast Steiner School and is a valuable opportunity for Steiner teachers across WA to network, share ideas and engage in professional learning together.
Next term (which begins Monday 7th October), we also look forward to welcoming new teacher, Blake Skinner, to the GHSS fold. Blake will begin his class teaching journey with our Class 3 group, whom Robyn and I have been teaching for the interim. Both Robyn and I have enjoyed our stint back in the primary school classroom, but are looking forward to handing the reins over to the very competent and enthusiastic Blake.
Wishing our families, teachers and students all the very best for a sunny spring holiday break!
