'Beloved Bach' Concerts
Come join us this weekend for a celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach and his music.
For musical families, this collaboration of musicians from Denmark and Albany is an event not to be missed. For the not-so-musically inclined, it will be an uplifting introduction to the beauty and joy of fine music.
Hear Marie Limondin and Iris Miller play the lively first movement of “The Double” - a Concerto for Two Violins in D minor with ALCO, and Adam Cook play the intense Eb minor Prelude and Fugue No.8. I have the joy of opening the concert singing a duet from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with David Rastrick on flugelhorn, and other arias interspersed with the choir and orchestra for Bach’s glorious Cantata BWV 140: Wachet Auf.
ALCO is ALbany Chamber Orchestra, managed by Mike Hyder. We have made a special effort to include several senior string students in this concert to give them experience of baroque style, playing alongside professionals, choir and soloists. Some of the players are alumni from Golden Hill Steiner School, and several are from homeschooling families.
A special treat on Sunday at the Civic Centre will be Classes 1 & 2 performing eurythmy to J.S. Bach’s Prelude No.1 in C major. This piece is so well-loved it is one of the works included in the Golden Record on Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft, launched by NASA in 1979. The Prelude is now far beyond our solar system, spanning interstellar space!
Our eurythmy form is moved with coloured silks, with choreography inspired by the Curves of Cassini, named after the astronomer of the late 17th century, Giovanni Domenico Cassini, who believed that a planet orbiting around another body travels on one of these curves.
Class 1 & 2 parents will put on a delicious afternoon tea during the interval on Sunday, raising funds for copper rods for the development of our school’s Eurythmy program.
We hope to see you at 3pm in Albany on Saturday or Denmark on Sunday. See the poster and book now using this link:
