Class 3 News

Lemonade Stall

Class 3 have been working through their Money main lesson, sharing different currencies from countries all over the world. We talked about the value of money in other countries compared to Australia, and what life would be like before the invention of currency and why there's a need for it. Class 3 set up market day stalls, creating our very own Denmark Dollar and produce. We learnt selling and buying skills, alongside bartering and trading. We decided on a lemonade stall to experience making and selling a product to our school community. The students learned about planning, costs, expenses and ultimately, making a profit.

Lemons were sourced and with the aid of a Thermomix, lemonade was made and the syrup bottled. Last Friday the day had arrived, and we eagerly set up our stall with an existing float and a jobs roster. Students were able to experience working as a team, greeting customers, pouring lemonade as a service and calculating change. We even received a cheque……..a what? Such a great conversation! This week the students have counted the money, calculated expenses and have banked their profit towards an outing in Term 4 with new teacher Blake.

Many thanks to everyone for their support.

Guided drawing

Class 3 have also been working on guided drawing as part of their art curriculum. Students are given a blue, yellow and red block crayon and are guided through the drawing process using shading and blending techniques to create shape. Students learn to follow instructions, plan their drawing, add detail, learn primary and secondary colours and the delicate use of shading using parts of the block crayon to add depth. I have been most impressed with the beautiful work produced by the children.
