Class 6 News

Class 6 has been busy preparing for our play. To build on our studies of Ancient Rome, we’ve selected a play that aligns with this theme, and we’re excited to perform it for you in Week 10 of this term.

Earlier in the term, we were thrilled to participate in the Primary Awareness Day at Denmark Agricultural College. Our class, along with Class 5/6 from Kwoorabup Nature School, shared a bus to the event. The students explored various areas of the college and learned about the diverse study opportunities available. It was a day filled with hands-on experiences, and we are very thankful to the staff and students at Denmark Ag for their hospitality.

As Class 6 students transition into adolescence, this year marks a period of renewal for them. In Form Drawing, we return to the foundations of curved and straight lines, first introduced in Class 1. However, this time, students are using geometric drawing tools to construct precise lines and arcs. Mastering these tools—finding the center of the page, using a compass to create perfect circumferences, and constructing intricate designs like a hexagon or a stellar figure—has been both a physical and intellectual challenge. The students are developing new skills as they grow into their changing physical bodies.

Recently, we moved beyond the compass to explore the use of protractors, measuring and marking the degrees within a circle. Set squares also came into play, allowing us to construct precise lines and angles as we deepened our understanding of geometry. The Geometry main lesson was a great success, and it naturally flowed into our Art lessons.

In our recent main lesson on Human Fertility, the children embarked on a profound journey of understanding and discovery as we delved into the fascinating realm of human life and reproduction. Over three weeks, the children engaged in lively discussions and hands-on activities that illuminated various aspects of human fertility. From exploring the biological processes involved in conception to discussing the emotional and social dimensions of family life, our classroom became a hub of curiosity and learning. Through storytelling, artistic expression, and thoughtful reflection, the students gained a deeper appreciation for the miracle of life and the interconnectedness of biological and spiritual dimensions. They explored themes of growth, responsibility, and the importance of respect in relationships.
