Class Four/Five News

It was lovely to welcome back the children and begin our journey in a new space.  The room feels great and the children and I are very happy to be there.  Both classes have begun a grounding and creative main lesson of Form Drawing.  It feels like the perfect start to the school year.  Form drawing has long been associated with Steiner Education, not only for its beauty but what it brings to each individual child and the class as a whole.  Form drawing is the freehand drawing of lines, patterns and structures.  The lines and curves with which the forms are built up are recognizable within each form.  The many geometric forms of flowers, honeycombs, spirals and shells are recognizable as we make our way through the main lesson and into freehand geometry.

Form drawing for children has the capacity to develop an integrated sense for spatial orientation – upwards, downwards, left, right, centre, periphery and symmetry.

Form drawing and geometry is part of our numeracy main lesson in both Class 4 and 5.
