Principal's Address
Dear GHSS Families,
Winter Festival Here we are at the end of Term 2, having celebrated a fabulous Makuru Winter Festival on Friday evening. The fantastic turn out of families and friends, past and present, is testament to the wonderful sense of community our school, and its festivals, engender. Of course, the preparations behorehand, which involve all of our school community, are crucial in making the Festival such a success.
Thank you to Kristi and Class 6 along with the help of their teacher, Ellen and parent volunteers, Carl Dusenburg and Theresa Stockdale, who assisted in the creation of our bonfire.
To staff and parents who prepared soups and bread, dropped off greenery for the spiral, laid and lit lanterns and then gathered them back in for next year - thank you.
Gratitude to Haikam Ssih for taking photos of the occasion; Bruce Anthony for the story; Ashley Schipp and Bruce for the music accompaniment; and to the teachers and children for all their hard work preparing the songs, verses and music that accompanied the various elements of the Festival.
How blessed were we with truly amazing weather on the night? I am sure you would all agree that, in the words of Della Rae Morrison's song, Universal Love, that closed our festival, one truly could feel the energy of the spirit through your soul.
Winners Concert Assembly This week, our final assembly will take a slightly different format. Instead of class work presentations, we will be treated to performances from our violin students who recently performed in the Albany Eisteddfod and received certificates of commendation in their performance category. Many of them were denied an opportunity to perform at the Winners Concert at Albany Entertainment Centre due to time constraints. Our assembly will give them the chance to celebrate their stellar performances that were the result of much effort and practice. Music teacher, Mike Hyder, will attend to accompany the performers and we also will be honoured with guest appearances from two of our graduates from last year who will perform for us, Poppyanna Fisken and Evie Francis.
Denmark Senior High School Talk Each year we are visited by staff from Denmark Senior High School, along with a few Year 7 students who have recently graduated from the Steiner school, to talk about enrolment and transition to Denmark SHS for the following year. DSHS Principal, Kath Ward will be speaking to our Class 6 students after the assembly on Friday and has invited interested parents to also attend.
Golden Hill Year 7 Parent Evening On July 29th at 6pm Golden Hill Steiner School will be hosting a parent information session on Continuing the Steiner Journey - The Year 7 Curriculum and Beyond. We invite all interested parents from across the classes and the wider community to join Perth Waldorf teacher, Kevin Mazzer and Golden Hill Steiner School Principal, Jacqui Hamblin, to learn, and ask questions, about the pioneering Class 7 that will begin the High School journey for GHSS. This event is free but for catering purposes, we ask that you RSVP your interest to Golden Hill Steiner School on 9848 1811 or by emailing office@goldenhill.wa.edu.au with the number of people attending.
Happy Holidays On behalf of all the staff at Golden Hill Steiner School, I wish you a wonderful, cosy Winter Break. Our three week break begins on June 26th and staff and students return to school on Monday, July 19th.
Warm regards,
Jacqui Hollingworth
