Rich treasures planted long ago
Within my soul, so dark and deep,
Are wakened by my will from sleep.
They stream into the world; they grow.
They bear star-substances of greatest worth,
Through loving deeds of mine, uniting heaven and earth.
Dear GHSS Families,
AGM Whilst we had a small number attend our AGM last night, we had 3 nominations to join our board. Our annual report and audited financials were tabled. The annual report is accessible on our Schoolzine app and also on the school website.
Drainage Works Our works are now complete and what a difference it has made to our grounds to have the water run-off better managed! Far less slip risks and a more accessible playground for the children.
Car Park Risks A reminder that the roundabout garden in the middle of the car park is not a play area. In the interests of safety for all, parents are asked to keep children out of that garden and the carpark generally at drop off and pick-up. Please ensure that you cross at the yellow path between the main carpark and staff park and walk along the path between the paddock fence and the front of the cars when moving to and from your vehicle rather than cutting through the carpark. Thank you for your co-operation.
School Pick-up School ends at 2.55pm and children are to be collected by 3.00pm. Any children remaining on site beyond 3.00pm must wait at the office for collection to ensure duty of care. Once a child is handed into the care of responsible adult at the end of the school day, duty of care transfers to that parent/adult. If parents are running late to collect children, please contact the office or arrange to have a friend collect them. Children are not to wait for pick-up, unsupervised on the oval or anywhere else, beyond 3pm. Children who have music onsite are not to remain on school grounds unsupervised between the end of the school day and when their lesson starts.
Busy Bee After the assembly on Friday we have a Busy Bee scheduled for straight after the assembly. The purpose of the Busy Bee will be to sort through donated items and items surplus to school requirement to allocate them for sale, tip shop or disposal. There will be 2 trailers available for the allocation of Tip Shop and disposal items. Remaining items that are deemed saleable are to be wiped down, photographed and the photos forwarded by email to the office for uploading to local online sale sites. Funds raised will contribute to our building fund. Parents interested in purchasing any of the items are welcome to pay and for and take items on the day. Your suppport is greatly appreciated as the items are currently taking up space in our Green Room and Costume Room and Class 4/5 have their play fast approaching so will need the space avaliable ASAP. Please indicate your attendance at the Busy Bee via the RSVP on the Schoolzine app.
Swimming Lessons We are off to ALAC each day next week for our double swimming lessons. Please ensure that children come to school with their bathers underneath their uniform and underclothes in their bag for when they change after swimming.
Denmark Festival of Voice All of our students from Classes 1-6 have the opportunity to participate in the Festival of Voice on the long weekend. Could parents please complete the permission notice on the app for the Class 3-6 Friday evening events and email class teachers for the Kindy to Class 3 event on Saturday to indicate attendance.
Students in Classes 4-6 can participate in the schools concert from 4pm-5pm at the Denmark Civic Centre. Tickets for this event are limited due to restrictions on audience numbers. The school will receive an allocation of tickets and you will need to acquire one from the front office should you wish to gain entry to the concert. We shall issue them as a first come first served basis until the allocation is exhausted.
Class 3-6 are invited to participate in the Opening Ceremony on the Cnr of Brazier and Barnett Streets. This event is free. It is also outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather. Parents are to drop children to their teachers at 7pm and collect them promptly at the conclusion at 8.15pm.
Finally, our Class 3 children, with the support of our Bush Kindy and Bush School Class 1 and 2 children, are singing in a special event named Koolangka on Saturday from 2 - 2.30pm on the lawns outside the Mustard Seed. This event is free. The children will sit in a circle and sing the Noongar language songs they have been learning as part of their Bush School program.
Phew! We will need the long weekend to recover. Until next newsletter, keep warm and dry!
Warm regards,
Jacqui Hollingworth

Karri for the Winter Festival Fire
Kristi McMullan is calling out for some lengths of Karri to use structurally in the Winter Festival Fire. Long pieces to create the height in our bonfire!
If you have some Karri and are willing to share with the school please let Kristi know - or email the office and we can pass on your details.
Thank you
