Dear GHSS Families,
Welcome back to the 2022 School year. I hope this newsletter finds you all relaxed and reconnected with family friends after the Christmas and New Year break! Staff return this week to prepare for the year ahead and we look forward to welcoming children back to the classrooms on Monday January 31st. We wil begin with our Rose Ceremony on the four square court to welcome Class 1 and their teacher, Sarah Moriarty, to their 7 year journey together. All parents who are able to stay are invited to join us for Morning Tea in the staff room in order to welcome new families to the school.
Busy Bee
It is that time of year once again! Our Back to School Busy Bee is scheduled for this Saturday, January 28th from 9 -12 with a Sausage Sizzle lunch at the end – and yes, vegan sausages will be supplied!
This is a great way to reconnect with families and friends and ensure that our return to school is all sparkly and fresh for the start of 2022. Bring along shovels, gloves, hats, wheelbarrows, covered shoes and a good supply of elbow grease and get a head start of your parenting hours for the year. You can log them on the Schoolzine app!
Tasks for this year include:
Kindy – laying of logs and spreading of sand in soft fall areas; spreading mulch beneath trees
Main grounds – spreading sand in soft fall areas
- Mulching garden and path areas (oak tree; trees along kiss and drop area; outside classrooms 1/2/3)
- Weeding vege gardens and orchard area
- General tidy – trailers available for rubbish removal to the tip shop / tip (behind hall; classrooms; staffroom; alongside machinery shed; behind class 5/6)

Classrooms – Class 1 – hang cheesecloths to windows and under lights & paint children’s individual blackboards
Other classes - (there may well be additional tasks in classes ie oiling new desks – but teachers will email their specific classes with these tasks this week)
We look forward to reconnecting with you all on Saturday morning!
