Dear GHSS Families,
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you all enjoyed some family time over the mid-year break.
Our usual newsletter is scheduled for Week 3, however I simply had to share the exciting news we received during the holidays - our registration to expand into the High School years of 7-10 was granted! We will begin by offering Class 7 in 2023 and add an additional class each year. We will also be beginning the approval process for Years 11 & 12 so it is approved in time for those starting Class 7 next year to complete their entire secondary education at GHSS if they wish!
PTX Architects have been working on our High School Master Plan and it will be available for comment in the near future. We are currently preparing an information evening for prospective families to attend, to hear all about what will be on offer for our inaugural Class 7, and our High School Prospectus is also being finalised.
I would also like to welcome staff that are returning or starting this Semester.
- Neal Collins will be returning 2 days a week in his role as gardening teacher, taking Classes 4-6 for gardening while Matthew continues with Classes 1-3.
- Sophia Sharpe returned to us at the end of last term and will be continuing in her EA duties for the remainder of the year.
- Sam Vinton-Boot will be joining our team to take Bush School with Bruce for Classes 1 & 2 on Wednesdays, with Sarah dropping to a 4 day week. Sam will also be in the school on Fridays to take a Main Lesson in Class 6, which will allow Robyn and I to work on High School plans. Phys Ed will become a new specialist area across all year levels, with Sam taking on that role also!
School reports went out at the end of last term. Teacher interviews will be conducted over the few weeks back at school and it is an expectaion that staff meet with at least one parent or carer of each child in their class. Please ensure you book an interview time. If you are unable to make any of the available timeslots then do not hesitate to contact the class teacher or front office to arrange an alternative time.
A reminder that we are still on the lookout for parents who would be happy to re-establish our P & F association. Students, staff and the school as a whole really appreciate and benefit from the support offered by an active P & F. If you are interested in any way, please contact the office with your details. With enough interest, we will be able to arrange an information session and support you in setting up.
A warm welcome to the new families who have joined our school this term. Class carers have been or will be in touch and I am sure you will receive a warm welcome from all.
